Back in 1998, Shankar written a complete political thriller ‘Okeokkadu’ keeping Superstar ‘Rajinikanth’ in his mind. When Shankar approached Rajinikanth with script, Rajini turned down the offer. The main reason for his disapproval is, He thought it may trouble him offscreen politically . Later, Shankar approached Vijay. He too turned down the offer due to unknown reasons. Then, Shankar went to Arjun and got his approval. Oke-okkadu turned out to be a blockbuster. And gave a much needed boost to Arjun’s career.
Rajinikanth missed a blockbuster in his career. Rejecting Oke Okkadu is his first big mistake.
Fast forward to 2016, Rajini’s much hyped film “Kabali”has hit the screens. But the film received negative reviews. Even though Tamil version of the film achieved commercial success, all other versions became disasters.
Shockingly, Rajini collaborated with Kabali director PA Ranjith once again after the debacle. Their Second collaboration was titled ‘Kaala’ . The film has created very low buzz and hype before it’s release. Ticket sales were also not upto the range of Rajini. Failure of Kabali reduced the interest of audience on this combination. Kaala has hit the screens in June 2018 and failed miserably at box-office. Though Kaala is better then Kabali in few aspects, It has collected less than Kabali at box-office.
Re-uniting with PA Ranjith right after Kabali’s debacle is second mistake of Rajinikanth
Rajini’s brand image took a slight beating after back to back failures. What made Rajini to accept ‘Kaala’?? this is a question of many fans. As one of those fans of Thalaivar, i sincerely request Rajinikanth to be careful while choosing scripts.
